ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will begin a stretch of three straight home series on Sunday, April 23 when they step back in to CCIW play to host the Carroll Pioneers.
Augustana is 15-15 overall, 4-4 in conference, and is coming off a non-conference split at Monmouth on Friday, winning game one by a score of 12-1 before dropping the finale by a score of 6-3. Augustana out-hit Monmouth 14-6 in the win, led by four from
Morgan Bielfeldt in as many plate appearances, and two from both
Emily Gad andÂ
Lauren Koster. Gad also boasted a career high five runs batted in. Koster earned the win on the mound. In game two, the Vikings fell behind 3-0 before evening the score with a three-spot in the top of the third. Monmouth answered Augie's three-run inning with one of their own in the ensuing at-bat, bringing the score to 6-3. The Vikings tallied two hits in the fourth and two in the seventh, but could not push any more runs across as the Scots held on the win in game two.
Olivia Blood led the Vikings' offense with two hits.
Carroll enters Sunday with a 14-18 overall record and 6-6 mark in the CCIW. The Pioneers recently snapped a four-game losing skid, defeating North Central in a pair of games on Friday. Carroll benefited from a no-hitter in game one, taking it by a score of 4-0 before also earning a win in the finale by a final of 4-2. Sunday's contests will be the fifth and sixth games in a row played on the road for the Pioneers.Â
The Vikings are 35-39 all-time against the Pioneers and have dropped nine of the last 10 overall. Carroll picked up two wins at home against Augustana last season, winning by scores of 3-2 and 2-1 (12 inn.).
