BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team will continue their conference slate on Sunday, April 23 when they take on the Transylvania Pioneers in a neutral-site matchup at Illinois Wesleyan.
Augie enters Sunday with a 6-8 overall record and 1-3 mark in the CCIW. The team is coming off a 23-6 defeat at home on Wednesday to Carthage in their most recent outing.
Jack Connolly notched the first goal of the contest, but the Vikings were met with six straight goals from the Firebirds on their way way to an 8-2 lead after one quarter of play. The Vikings earned goals form Connolly and
Brenson Brown in the second, but another high-scoring period from the visitors put them up 11 at the break. Carthage out-scored Augustana 8-2 in the second half to secure the road win.
Erik Singdahlsen had 11 saves in net for Augustana, while Connolly and
Jake Moore led the offensive efforts with multi-goal performances.
Carson Ghys also contributed four assists, whileÂ
Paul Huber caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
The Pioneers enter the weekend with a 3-9 overall record and 2-1 mark in conference. Transy will face Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday before sticking around to take on the Vikings there on Sunday. The Pioneers recently saw a two-game winning streak come to an, falling to North Central by a score of 13-7. Prior to that, Transylvania secured consecutive wins over Carroll and Carthage to snap a five-game losing skid.
Sunday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Vikings and Pioneers, with Transy winning two of the three previous encounters. The Pioneers won last season's matchup in Naperville by a score of 17-8.
