MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will be back in action on Friday, April 21 when they visit the Monmouth Fighting Scots for their final two non-conference games of the season.

Augustana sits at 14-14 overall, recently splitting a non-conference series at home on Wednesday with the UW-Platteville Pioneers. The visitors struck first and built up a 4-1 lead before the Vikings inched closer in the sixth with a pair of runs produced by Claudia Buchholz and Lauren Koster. The Pioneers added three in the final inning to cushion their margin, while holding Augie in check in their final at-bat opportunity to complete the four-run win. In game two, the Vikings tallied the first score of the game on an RBI single in the second, later doubling their lead to two in the fifth on another run-scoring single from Morgan Bielfeldt. Platteville earned a run back thanks to a home run, but Nadia Ranieri closed out the win on the mound, earning her 10th victory of the season.

Monmouth enters Friday sporting a 9-17 overall mark, recently snapping a three-game skid with a 7-1 victory over Eureka on Tuesday. The Fighting Scots are 0-3 versus CCIW opponents this season, dropping a doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan and single game against Carroll. Monmouth is 1-3 at their home field this season.

The Vikings are 52-21 all-time against the Fighting Scots and are winners of their last three meetings in the series. Augie swept a home doubleheader a year ago, taking game one by a score of 4-0 and game two by a final of 8-3. Ranieri threw a no-hitter in the opening contest, striking out 16 in the process.

Start time for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
