ROCK ISLAND — The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team remains home for a rescheduled matchup against the Rockford Regents on Monday, April 3.
The Vikings hold a 10-11 record, 1-7 in conference, with their most recent action coming against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, where they fell to the Titans 3-1 by set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23. Augie trailed for much of the opening set but trimmed the lead to four points late before their comeback attempt was snuffed out with three straight scores from the Titans to claim game one. An early run from the Titans gave them an 11-6 lead to begin set two before eventually pushing it out to double figures at 22-12. After trading two points each, the Vikings lost with a set-point kill to go behind 2-0 in the match. Augie faced a 20-17 deficit in the third set but launched a successful comeback, scoring six in a row before a 2-2 split propelled the Vikings to a 25-22 win to extend the contest to a fourth game. Augustana fell in the final set 25-23 after two late scores proved too late, with the Titans grabbing match point to claim the series.
Sean Carlson led the Augustana attack with 11 kills, hitting at a .217 clip. Max Sellers was the team leader in digs with 19, while Matthew Degnan paced the Vikings in assists with 39.
The Regents currently possess a 5-15 record and are 1-8 on the road this season. The team is on an eight-match skid and is coming off a 3-0 road loss to Dominican on Saturday, where they fell by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-17. The Regents trailed in total kills by a 37-22 margin and were successful on just .091 percent of their attacking attempts. The previous meeting between Augustana and Rockford was postponed due to inclement weather on February 16, with Monday's contest serving as the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
