ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team returns to Thorson-Lucken Field for a conference matchup against the No. 16 ranked Chicago Maroons on Wednesday, April 19.
Augie holds a 5-5 record, 0-2 in conference, with their most recent action resulting in a 23-7 road loss to Carthage on Saturday. After falling behind 3-0 early, Kyla Painter paused the Carthage scoring spree with an unassisted goal. The Firebirds tacked on three more scores before Madison Langewisch netted a score at 5:30 to move the score to 6-2. Carthage scored seven consecutive goals, with Augustana responding once in the second quarter before the Firebirds added two more goals to make the halftime score 15-3. The Vikings were outscored 5-1 in the third, extending Carthage's lead to 16 entering the final frame. The two teams battled in a 3-3 fourth period as the Vikings suffered their first road loss of the season. Painter, Langewisch, and Cassidy Petrie each had two goals to lead the Augie attack.
Chicago possesses a 10-2 record, 1-0 in conference, and is coming off a 24-7 home win over the Lewis Flyers. The Flyers went ahead 1-0 before the Maroons surged for five unanswered goals in a five-minute span. Following three scores from Lewis, Chicago went on another 5-0 run to enter the intermission ahead 12-5. The second half was all Chicago, as the home team scored 12 goals in succession to put the game out of reach. The Flyers tacked on an insignificant goal in the fourth as the Maroons secured their fifth-straight win.
Chicago holds a 3-0 advantage over Augustana in the all-time series, with the latest meeting between the two programs resulting in a 25-1 win for Maroons in Rock Island on April 16, 2022. Augie netted their lone goal in the fourth quarter from the stick of Petrie.
