ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will return home on Wednesday, April 19 when they host the UW-Platteville Pioneers for a pair of non-conference contest.
Augustana currently sits at 13-13 overall after sweeping a CCIW doubleheader at Elmhurst on Saturday. The Vikings took game one by a score of 3-0 in extras, scoring all three runs in the top of the eighth following a lengthy weather delay. Three run-producing singles highlighted the offense in the frame, followed up
Nadia Ranieri striking out the side and leaving two Bluejays on base in the bottom half. She ended the game with 15 strikeouts and was recently named CCIW Pitcher of the Week for the third week in a row.
In game two, Augie fell behind after Elmhurst broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth with two scores. The Vikings answered with three in the ensuing at-bat, seeing a two-out, two-run single from
Marley Behm to tie the game before
Jennica Soliz delivered the game-winner.
Lauren Koster shut down Elmhurst in the top of the seventh to secure the one-run win.
UW-Platteville enters Wednesday with a 17-9 overall record and are winners of their last three games, all by one run. The Pioneers recently swept a doubleheader with UW-Stevens Point, taking game one by a score of 1-0 before winning the finale 3-2. The Pioneers' three-game winning streak comes after they suffered four straight losses. Platteville is 3-4 on the road this season.
The Vikings are 18-5 all-time against the Pioneers, having won their single meeting last season at the Mount Mary Slugger Series in Peoria by a score of 1-0 in nine innings.Â
Start time for game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.Â
