Women's lacrosse travels to Kenosha for showdown with Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team heads to Wisconsin for a CCIW battle against the Carthage Firebirds on Saturday, April 15.

Augie holds a 5-4 record, 0-1 in conference, with their most recent action resulting in a 22-5 home loss to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on April 8. Augie went behind 6-0 in the opening quarter, but a goal by Madison Langewisch as time expired cut the deficit to five entering the second. The Titans added three more scores to begin the frame before a Cassidy Petrie free-position strike moved the score to 9-2. The Vikings trailed 12-3 at halftime and added two more scores in the third but could not mount the comeback as Illinois Wesleyan claimed the road contest. Langewisch led the Augustana attack effort with three goals, while Petrie and Narita Lambert each scored one. 

Carthage holds a 7-5 record, 0-1 in conference, and is coming off a 26-7 road loss to No. 16 ranked Chicago. The Firebirds forced draws at 1-1 and 3-3, but the Maroons slowly crept ahead, scoring two of the next three goals to take a 5-4 lead. The two teams exchanged scores early in the second before the Maroons broke open the contest to take a commanding 15-5 lead into the break. Carthage mustered just two goals in the second half as their ranked opponent scored 11 more times to put the game at its 26-7 final. Maddie Berni and Piper LeFevre led the Firebirds' attack with two goals each. 

Augustana leads Carthage in the all-time series by an 8-5 overall record. The most recent meeting between the two programs resulted in a 22-8 victory for the Firebirds in Rock Island on April 23, 2022. After the first half of play, Augie was down 15-2. The team fought back with six goals in the second half but could not close the gap. Petrie led the Vikings with three goals, while Claire Kim added one.
