FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team remains on the road for a bout against the Franklin Grizzlies on Thursday, March 30.
Augie has a 4-3 record, most recently defeating the Spalding Golden Eagles on the road by an 18-2 final score. Augustana scored 12 unanswered in the opening half, with goals from six players. The Golden Knights added two goals to start the second half, but any hope of a comeback attempt was snuffed out with six-straight scores from the Vikings to secure the 16-point road win. Cassidy Petrie led the team with five goals, while Claire Kim and Elena Bechard finished just behind with four apiece. The Vikings caused 13 turnovers and nabbed 37 ground balls, with Madison Langewisch leading the team with four and eight, respectively.
Franklin enters Thursday's matchup with a 2-3 record and is currently on a three-game skid, losing their most recent bout to Thomas More by an 18-8 final. Franklin seized a 5-4 lead at the end of the opening period after trailing 3-1 early but fell behind 11-6 at the break. The Grizzlies could not overcome the Saints in the second half after scoring just twice, enduring their first road defeat. Franklin saw multi-score games from three different players, with Victoria Simmons leading the way with four goals.
Thursday will be the first-ever meeting between Augustana and Franklin.
