LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team bested the Spalding Golden Eagles on Tuesday by an 18-2 final.
The opening half of play was all Augustana as the Vikings scored 12 goals, all but one coming on woman-up opportunities.
Madison Langewisch and
Claire Kim nabbed unassisted goals early in the opening period before back-to-back scores from
Cassidy Petrie put the Vikings ahead 4-0.
Elena Bechard got involved at the 6:58 mark to push the advantage to five before Kim nabbed consecutive scores before the frame's conclusion. Leading 7-0 after 15 minutes of action, Petrie and Bechard each netted a score before
Narita Lambert entered the scoring frenzy with two straight goals.
Kyla Painter sent in the final goal of the half off an assist from Petrie to put the Vikings up 12-0.
The Golden Knights showed life early in the second half, scoring two goals before the Vikings snuffed out any hope of a comeback by scoring the game's final six. Petrie scored with 4:39 remaining in the third before Painter nabbed her second goal off an assist from Langewisch. In the fourth, Augie saw two scores early from Kim and Petrie prior to Bechard's strike at 5:10 to put a bow on the 16-point road triumph.
Petrie secured a team-high five goals, while Kim and Bechard finished just behind with four apiece. Augie caused 13 turnovers and grabbed 37 ground balls, paced in both categories by Langewisch with four and eight, respectively. The Vikings dominated Spalding in draw control wins by a 19-5 margin.
Rachel Forman had four saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Vikings improve to 4-3 with the victory. The team will remain on the road for a bout with Franklin on Thursday, March 30 in Franklin, Ind. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CDT.
