Baseball falls to Colby in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Augustana baseball fell on Saturday to the Colby Mules 6-1, seeing their 12-game winning streak come to an end in their second game of the RussMatt Invitational.

The two teams battled through three scoreless innings before Colby surged for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. After a quiet fifth inning in which starter Harrison Boushele struck out two Mules, the Vikings scored their lone run in the top of the sixth on an Ethan Sosnowski RBI single that brought in Alex Simon from third. Augie nabbed two more hits in the inning to tie their fifth-inning offensive efforts with three hits but left three runners on base. Colby added a run in the eighth to put the score at its 6-1 final.

Augie had six hits as a team, with Matt Ozanic nabbing a team-high with two, while four other Vikings had one. Boushele struck out nine batters in six innings of work on the mound.

The Vikings move to 13-3 with the loss and will head over to Winter Haven, Fla. for a three-game slate against St. Olaf from March 26-29. The first matchup begins on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. CDT from Chain O'Lakes Complex.
