Women's lacrosse wraps up home stand against Marian

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team remains home for a non-conference battle against the Marian Sabres on Saturday, March 25. 

Augie has a 3-2 record, most recently defeating the Monmouth Fighting Scots 18-1 at home on Wednesday. The game was tied at 1-1 early in the first period before it was all Vikings from there, as they scored 17 unanswered points to win. Five different Vikings players scored goals, including hat tricks from Elena Bechard, Cassidy Petrie, Madison Langewisch, and Claire Kim. In addition to forcing 24 turnovers, led by Bechard's five, Augie also collected 20 ground balls as a team, with Kayla Ohm grabbing four of them. In net, Rachel Forman secured 10 saves in 60 minutes of action. 

Marian enters Saturday's matchup with a 4-4 record, losing their most recent contest in double overtime to North Central by an 11-10 final. The Sabres leaped to a 2-0 advantage before the Cardinals battled back to snatch a 7-6 lead at the halftime break. North Central held a one-score advantage as the two teams traded points until the Sabres scored the equalizer with 26 seconds left to force overtime. After holding the Cardinals to zero shot attempts in the initial overtime, Marian saw North Central strike with 1:13 remaining to lose a heartbreaker in Naperville. 

Augustana leads Marian 1-0 in the all-time series, with their lone meeting resulting in a 12-7 road victory on March 24, 2022. The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter and outscored the Sabres 4-3 in the second to carry a five-point advantage into the break. The two teams exchanged four goals each in the final two frames to propel Augie to their five-point win. Petrie and Kim each grabbed scores in the contest.
