DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team was defeated on the road on Wednesday, falling to the Dubuque Spartans by a score of 16-6.
The Spartans tallied the game's first five goals, four which came in the opening quarter. Augie got on the board early in the second as
Jack Connolly sent one into the back of the net on a pass from
Elijah Graesser. Dubuque answered with two more scores to push their lead to six before the Vikings trimmed it to four with three of the next four goals. Connolly earned his second of the game five minutes after his opening tally, followed by scores from
Brenson Brown and
Jake Moore. The Spartans added one final goal in the half with 33 seconds remaining to make it 9-4 at intermission.
Carson Ghys notched the first goal of the second half to bring the Vikings back within four, but the team was met by three in a row from the home team to cushion the differential to seven. Moore accounted for Augie's final score prior to Dubuque's 4-0 surge to end the contest.
Gus Magnusson finished with 12 saves in net for the Vikings, while
Paul Huber and
Caiden McCann each caused three turnovers. Connolly was the team's offensive leader, ending his night with the two goals and an assist.
With the loss, the team falls to 3-3 on the season. Augustana will be back home on Saturday, March 25 when they host Alma at Thorson-Lucken Field. Start time is scheduled for noon.
