Women's lacrosse to face Monmouth in fourth straight home game

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team will remain home for a non-conference battle against the Monmouth Fighting Scots on Wednesday, March 22. 

Augie possesses a 2-2 record, recently falling in a double overtime bout to the Concordia-Chicago Cougars by a 9-8 score. The Vikings nabbed the opening score before the Cougars responded with three straight goals. Augie tied the game with back-to-back goals before both teams added one to tie the game at 4-4. The Cougars scored twice before halftime, but Cassidy Petrie netted the lone goal in the third quarter to narrow the lead to one. Elena Bechard's goal 30 seconds into the fourth period drew the game at 6-6, forcing the initial overtime period after the two teams added two scores to maintain the deadlock. The Cougars scored the game-winning shot in the second overtime session.

Petrie had five goals to lead Augie's scoring attack, while Bechard, Kyla Painter, and Claire Kim each added one. The Vikings caused seven turnovers, paced by Bechard with three. Augustana had nine ground balls as a team, led by Painter with three.

Monmouth enters Wednesday's matchup with an 0-2 record, falling in their most recent matchup to Culver-Stockton by a 16-3 final. Each of the Fighting Scots' goals came from a different player, while Lea Selquist recorded 14 saves. Augustana holds a 4-0 record against Monmouth in the all-time series, with their most recent meeting resulting in a 15-0 thumping on March 17, 2021. Petrie finished second on the team with three goals while scooping two ground balls.
