DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will be back in action on Wednesday, March 15 when they visit the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees for a doubleheader.
Augustana enters Wednesday with a 5-5 overall record, recently wrapping up their second trip to the Mount Mary Slugger Series with a 1-3 stay. The Vikings were defeated in their last day of the series on March 3, dropping back-to-back games to UW-Stevens Point and Loras. Augie began the Slugger Series in Peoria with a 3-1 record, outscoring their opponents in the three wins by a combined 42-1. All 10 of the Vikings' contests this season have been at a neutral site, with Wednesday's meeting with St. Ambrose their first true road games of the season.
The Fighting Bees currently sit at 9-5 on the season, currently in the midst of a two-game win streak after sweeping a doubleheader over William Penn last time out. Overall, the team has won three out of their last four contests. St. Ambrose has played all 14 games at home this season, with Augustana the final two game of a stretch of 16 straight at home.
Wednesday will be the 77th and 78th games played between the two programs, with the Bees leading the all-time series 36-30. The two teams each have two wins in their last five meetings, with the other a 7-7 tie in 2015. In their most recent encounter in 2016, St. Ambrose was victorious by a score of 5-3.
