MOLINE, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings baseball team will open their 2023 home slate on Wednesday, March 15 when they welcome in the Monmouth Fighting Scots.
The Vikings currently sit with a record of 10-2 after picking up their ninth straight win at the Gene Cusic Classic. Augie's bats warmed up under the Florida sun, registering at least eight hits across their four games while winning their first three games by eight runs or more. In their most recent triumph over Western Connecticut State, Augie had a two-run lead going into the ninth inning when the Wolves tied the game at 4-4. The Vikings had no interest in extra innings, as a Kyle Campbell three-run home run ended the game in walk-off fashion.
Monmouth enters Wednesday with a 3-6 overall record, losing their most recent game to Penn State Behrend in Fort Pierce, Fla., to round out their Florida Coast Spring Training slate. The Fighting Scots managed seven hits in the 12-1 defeat while leaving 13 runners on base. Logan Komater nabbed the lone run for Monmouth. Augustana leads the Fighting Scots in the all-time series 51-34, with their most recent meeting resulting in an 8-3 Vikings victory on March 28, 2012.
The action begins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday from Swanson Stadium. The game will be streamed here.
