Augie softball goes 3-1 in first trip to Mount Mary Slugger Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 PEORIA, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team compete in their first of two trips to the Mount Mary Slugger Series on Thursday and Friday, bouncing back from an opening loss to Dominican before picking up a pair of wins over host school Mount Mary and Finlandia.

The Vikings struck first against the Dominican Starts with an RBI groundout from Jennica Soliz in the first inning before adding on to their lead in the second with a Janna George RBI. The Stars answered in the second, proceeded to tally the next six runs of the game for a 6-1 advantage. Augie got a run back in the top of the seventh on an Ellie Jahn single, but ran out of at-bats as they dropped the game by a final of 6-3.

Augustana responded in game two with an 8-0 victory over the Blue Angels of Mount Mary.\

On day two, the Vikings opened with a rout of the Finlandia Lions. Augie knocked in two runs in the first inning on doubles from Ashlyn Mathers and Olivia Blood before running away from the Lions in the second with seven more runs. The scoring outburst was fueled by a bases-clearing double from Nadia Ranieri. Augie added five more in the third before trading two scoreless innings with Finlandia to close the game. Eight different Vikings accounted for a hit in the win, led by Marley Behm's two-hit effort. Ranieri struck out eight on the mound, followed in relief by Becca Cash, who struck out three.

The Vikings ended their action on Friday with a 20-1 win over Mount Mary, their second of the week.

Augustana will return to Peoria late next week to wrap up the event with four more games.
