ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team will remain home as they continue their non-conference slate on Saturday, February 25 when they host the Northwestern (Minn.) Eagles at Thorson-Lucken Field.
The Vikings were dropped in their season opener last Saturday by the Calvin Knights. The two teams played to an even 4-4 opening period before the Knights took a two-goal advantage into halftime. Calvin broke away from the close battle with six goals in the third and nine more in the fourth to complete the double-digit win.
Carson Ghys tied for a game-high four goals to lead the Vikings on offense, while
Elijah Graesser and
Jack Connolly both added two. The defense was led by
Paul Huber and
Jake Weinberg, each accounting for two caused turnovers in the contest.
The Eagles of Northwestern will enter Saturday having yet to play a game in 2023. The team finished their 2022 campaign with a 4-10 record. After beginning the year 1-7, the Eagles won three in a row in mid April, but fell in their final three contests of the season.
Saturday will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs, with Augustana winning all three of their encounters. The teams battled last season in St. Paul, Minn., resulting in a 9-4 win for the Vikings. Graesser had two goals and two caused turnovers in the win.
Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
