Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team picked up two more wins on Sunday to make it a perfect 4-0 stay at the Macalester Invite, defeating the Caltech Beavers by a score of 22-12 before knocking of the Carthage Firebirds 19-7.
Game One (W 22-12 vs Caltech)
The Vikings got off to a fast start in the opening quarter of game one, shutting out the Beavers while score seven times in the first eight minutes.
Casey Barragan found the back of the net four times in the opening frame, joined by teammates
Ocean Akau,
Annie Opal Dickson, and
Olivia Parry in the scoring column. The Beavers won the second quarter 5-3 to inch closer at halftime, with the Vikings see three goals from three different players to bring a 10-5 score into intermission. Barragan, Akau, and Dickson notched a goal for the second straight period.Â
Augustana pulled away for good in the third quarter, doubling up Caltech 6-3 to bring 16-8 leading into the fourth. Three new Vikings scored in the period, led by
Charlotte Newport's two goals.
Jillian Hagmann and
Lauren Dickinson also found the back of the net for the first time in the contest. The Vikings posted another plus-quarter in the fourth to coast to the double-digit win. Barragan's three scores in the final frame gave her eight for the game, the most in her short Augie career.
As a team, the Vikings tallied 20 assists on their 22 goals. Five different Augie members notched at least three, with
Victoria Guest boasting a team-high five.
Lanie DaSilva had eight saves in net.

Game Two (W 19-7 vs. Carthage)
Again, the Vikings got off to a quick advantage, scoring four in the opening period while holding the Firebirds to just one point. Four different Vikings notched a goal in the period as Akau, Guest, Barragan, and
Carli Udovich helped put the team in front early. Augustana cushioned their lead after a 6-2 second quarter, on their way to a 10-3 halftime lead. Barragan added two more to her total in the frame, with
Jersey Merrick and Dickinson joining in on the scoring. Barragan went on to score at least once in every quarter, tallying six in the win. Guest also added six goals, two of which came via penalty shot. In net, Pelzman stopped 15 shots and had four steals.
Augustana outscored Carthage 9-4 in the second half to pick up their second double-digit win on the day.
With the wins, Augie improves to 4-1 on the year. The team will have a weekend off before heading to California for the Claremont Convergence beginning March 3.
