MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Augustana baseball completed their second game of the Rhodes Classic on Saturday, besting the Rhodes Lynx by a 7-1 final.
The Vikings were at the plate first, getting off to a fast start against right-handed pitcher Zach Sohosky as
Cole Green opened with a single. Two outs ensued before
Kyle Campbell singled to advance Green to third.
Alex Simon singled in the next at-bat, earning an RBI, as Green secured the run to take a 1-0 advantage. Augie left two runners on base at the conclusion of the inning following an
Ethan Sosnowski ground out to first.
Harrison Boushele started on the mound for Augustana, striking out the opening batter before his defense helped him out of the frame with the following two outs. The two teams went scoreless in the second and third innings. Campbell and Simon recorded back-to-back hits to open the fourth inning.
Dymitri Kanellakis reached on a fielder's choice to advance the Augie runners to second and third. The Vikings earned two runs the following at-bat, with
Michael Aragon hitting a double to bring in Campbell and Simon and go up 3-0. With one out on the board, Rhodes hit a single to drive their on-base runner and bring the score to 3-1 at the conclusion of the fourth.
Following a scoreless fifth inning, Augustana added three runs at the top of the sixth. Simon again reached base on an error by Rhodes at short and was brought in by a Kannellakis double to score the Vikings' fourth run.
Carter Foat advanced to first after getting hit by relief pitcher Brett Bokelman's right-handed toss. Foat scored on the ensuing at-bat, alongside Kannellakis, after
Trevor Moore hit a two-RBI single to bring the score to 6-1. Boushele continued to deal through the bottom of the 6th, striking out his 10th batter to keep the Lynx at bay. The two teams breezed through a scoreless seventh inning.
Augie took advantage of a pitching change at the top of the eighth, with
Alec McGinnis grounding out to second base and advancing Moore to home plate to bring the score to its eventual 7-1 final.
Bryce Luckey closed the game on the mound for Augustana, striking out one in the ninth frame as his defense helped him seal the contest.
Boushele impressed in his debut, earning the win after pitching a full seven innings and recording 11 strikeouts. Luckey was efficient in relief, allowing just one hit in the final two innings to close the contest for Augustana.
Augie improved mightily at the plate from yesterday's contest against Wabash, seeing six players record hits, including two apiece from Cole, Campbell, and Simon. All three added a run scored as well.
The Vikings improve to 1-1 and will be back on Sunday for the final game of their road trip when they face off against UW-Eau Claire at 10:30 a.m. The stream link can be found
