WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will resume play on Saturday, February 11 when they hit the road to take on the Carroll Pioneers in a CCIW matchup.
Augustana enters with a 7-15 overall record and 5-8 mark in the CCIW, sitting just a half game behind North Central for the final CCIW Tournament qualifying spot. The Vikings were narrowly defeated in their most recent outing last Saturday, falling to the Carthage Firebirds by a score of 86-82. After leading by four at the break, the Vikings fell behind in the second half and eventually faced a double-digit deficit with around a minute remaining in the game. A late surge saw the Vikings pull within a single possession, but were unable to catch up as free throws iced the game for the Firebirds. Three Augustana players hit double figures in the game, led by
Chase Larsen's 20 points.
Matt Hanushewsky tallied 15 on 50 percent shooting, with
Tyler Knuth securing 14. Hanushewsky and Larsen were also the team's top rebounders, grabbing eight and seven, respectively.
Carroll currently sits 5-17 overall and 2-11 in the CCIW. The Pioneers snapped an eight-game losing streak on Wednesday, defeating the Elmhurst Bluejays 65-64 at home. A made free throw with 23 seconds left gave Carroll the lead, following it up with a defensive stop to seal the win. The Pioneers' limited success this season has come mostly at home, with both of their conference wins and three of their five total wins taking place in Waukesha.Â
The Vikings lead the Pioneers 61-30 in the all-time series between the two and have won four of the last five meetings. Augustana won their earlier-season matchup in Rock Island by a score of 91-59. Knuth led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 7-9 from three-point range.
Start time for Saturday's contest is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
