WHEATON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team dropped a conference road battle on Saturday, falling to the Wheaton Thunder by a score of 6-3.
Augie held an early advantage in the match, grabbing two of the three doubles contests.
Caitlyn Hanulikova and
Hannah Colbert earned a hard-fought 8-6 victory at the No. 1 position, while
Anna-Maria Huebel and
Natasha Gauerke took down their opponent at No. 2 by an 8-5 final. Wheaton's win at No. 3 made it 2-1 in favor of the Vikings heading into singles.
Five of the six matches in singles went to the Thunder to complete the 6-3 score. Hanulikova snagged the lone win for the Vikings at No. 2, knocking off her counterpart by a final of 6-4, 6-2.
Jaina Burkett battled tough at the No. 5 position, but fell in three sets after winning the first.
Augustana drops to 3-3 with the loss. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 13 at Carroll.
