NEW BERLIN, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team earned a road victory over the Carroll Pioneers on Friday, winning by a score of 7-2.
Weather forced the two teams to compete indoors at the Princeton Club in New Berlin and began with the Vikings winnings two of the three doubles matches to bring a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
Hannah Colbert and
Caitlyn Hanulikova grabbed a win at the No. 1 position by a score of 8-3, while
Anna-Maria Huebel and
Natasha Gauerke squeaked out an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 slot.
In singles, Augie won five of the six matches, led by Hanulikova's quick 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. Gauerke also won swiftly over her opponent at No. 4, collecting a pair of 6-1 set wins for the victory.
Jaina Burkett won her match at No. 5 by a final of 6-1, 6-4, while Colbert edged her counterpart at No. 3 by a score of 6-3, 7-5. Huebel was victorious at No. 1 after playing in the only contest that went three sets, winning both the first and third by a score of 6-0.
With the victory, Augustana improves to 4-3 both overall and in the CCIW. The team will close out fall and conference action tomorrow against Carthage.
