ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team cruised to a road victory on Friday, defeating the Elmhurst Bluejays by a final score of 6-0.
Augustana claimed both doubles matches that were played, earning a quick 8-0 win at No. 2 from
Anna-Maria Huebel and
Natasha Gauerke before
Caitlyn Hanulikova and
Hannah Colbert won their match at No. 1 by a score of 8-3. Elmhurst did not field a team at the third position, giving Augie a third point and a win by default to
Hattie Timerman and
Maitreyi Shrikhande.
The Vikings were awarded a fourth point in the match after another default win at No. 6 singles prior to a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions. Hanulikova took down her opponent at No. 2 with consecutive 6-1 scores, while
Jaina Burkett grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 slot. Due to court availability, the contest was called with still three matches yet to be completed.
Win the victory, Augie improves to 3-2 overall and in the CCIW. The team will be back in action on Saturday at Wheaton.
