Men's soccer remains on road to take on Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will remain on the road for their next contest on Saturday, October 7 when they visit the Millikin Big Blue in a conference clash.

Augustana currently sits 0-8-2 on the season and is coming off a road loss to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Wednesday by a score of 3-0. The Titans got on the board in the 14th minute and rode the 1-0 lead all the way into halftime. The Augie defense fended off seven shots in the opening half from the home team, putting up two of their own. Nick Sell tallied the lone attempt on target for the Vikings through one half of play.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Illinois Wesleyan notched their second score of the game. The Titans held a 9-2 advantage in shots in the second half, with both of the strikes from the Vikings on target. Derek Dedume and George Rucker posted each of the attempts in the second half. Illinois Wesleyan added one more score in the 83rd minute to complete the 3-0 win. Ignacio Alberola secured five saves in net.

Millikin enters the weekend at 4-5-1 overall and 0-2 in conference, currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak. The Big Blue were defeated in their most recent contest by UW-Whitewater by a final score of 2-1. All four of Millikin's wins this season have come on their home field where they boast a 4-1 record. The team's last win came at home back on September 16, a 2-1 victory over Washington-St. Louis. Their lone defeat in Decatur this season came in conference play, falling to Carroll 4-2.

The Vikings hold a 22-12-3 all-time record against the Big Blue and have won four of the last seven meetings in the series. The two teams played to a scoreless tie last season in Rock Island.
