Women's soccer closes home stand vs. Illinois Wesleyan

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will wrap up their three-game home stand on Wednesday, October 4 when they host the Illinois Wesleyan Titans for CCIW showdown.

Augustana is currently riding a nine-game unbeaten streak and sits at 8-1-2 on the season. The Vikings recently played to a scoreless tie on Saturday against Carthage, their second second of the season. Each team saw their fair share of shot attempts in the opening half, with the Vikings holding a 7-5 advantage in that category through 45 minutes of action. Each team sent one of their attempts on target and were both saved to keep the game at its 0-0 tie.

In the second, the shot attempts for the visitors increased as the Firebirds held an 11-3 margin in shots to close out the game. All three of the Vikings' attempt in the second half were on the mark, but neither team could find the back of the net. Augie faced seven shot attempts in the final 30 minutes, including four in the final 10. Janey Castoe earned the shutout for Augustana after saving seven sent her way.

Giorgia Felicita and Jayde Speight led the team with three shots apiece.

Illinois Wesleyan enters Wednesday with a 1-9-1 overall record and are in the midst of a nine-game winless streak dating back to September 6. The Titans were defeated at Wheaton their last time out, falling by a score of 2-1 to move their road record to 0-6 on the season. Four of the team's nine losses on the year have come against ranked opponents and their lone victory was a 4-0 win over Knox in the second game of the season.

The Titans hold a 19-9-8 advantage in the all-time series and have won nine of the last 10 meetings over the Vikings. Illinois Wesleyan defeated Augustana 3-0 last season in Bloomington. Wednesday will serve as the first home game in the series for the Vikings since the 2018 season.
