ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will begin its postseason run on Saturday, October 28 when it hosts the Millikin Big Blue in the CCIW Tournament quarterfinals.
Augustana earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming tournament and sports a 10-4-4 overall record and 3-2-3 mark in the CCIW. The Vikings were defeated in their most recent outing on Wednesday at North Central to close the regular season, but due to a Millikin tie at Wheaton, Augie remained in position to host an opening round contest. Augustana is 6-1-2 in Rock Island this season and has outscored opponents 9-4 at Thorson-Lucken Field. The team played to a scoreless draw with Carroll their last time out at home.
Three members of the team were named to the CCIW All-Conference teams announced on Friday.
Janey Castoe was named the Goalkeeper of the Year as well as a First Team recipient, while
Liesl Whitener and
Abby DeGustino earned Second Team honors.
Millikin ended the regular season with a 6-5-4 overall record and 2-2-4 standing in the CCIW to earn the No. 5 seed. The Big Blue tied Wheaton on Wednesday by a score of 2-2, seeing the equalizing goal from the Thunder come in the 90th minute of action. Millikin is 2-3-3 on the road this season, but is unbeaten in the last five outings away from home, recording two wins and three draws.
The Vikings are 25-1-2 all-time against the Big Blue. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in their regular season meeting in Decatur back on October 7, with the Big Blue posting a 14-2 advantage in shots.
Start time on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. The winner will advance to play the No. 1 seeded North Central Cardinals on Wednesday.
