ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will play host the visiting Carroll Pioneers on Saturday, October 21 for their final regular season game at Thorson-Lucken Field.
Augustana currently sits 10-3-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in the CCIW after suffering its first conference loss on Wednesday to the Wheaton Thunder by a score of 3-1. Wheaton got on the board first just over 10 minutes into the second half and quickly followed it up with two more scores within four minutes of each other in the 65th and 69th minute. Augie cut the deficit to two less than a minute after the third Thunder goal as a header into the back of the net from
Samira Khobdeh off a corner from
Allison Gibeau made it a 3-1 game. Wheaton held another big advantage in shots in the second half, posting a 12-2 differential.
Kierstyn Rogers notched two saves for Augie in 15 minutes of action in net, while starter
Janey Castoe snagged seven.
Khobdeh led the Vikings with two shots on the night, both on goal, while
Liesl Whitener and
Jayde Speight also tallied one each.
Carroll enters Saturday with an 8-5-2 overall record and an identical mark in conference with Augustana. The Pioneers recently saw their four-game unbeaten streak come to and, falling to the No. 23 ranked North Central Cardinals at home by a score of 2-0 last Saturday. Despite the span without a loss for the Pioneers, the team is searching for its first win in two weeks, a 1-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan back on October 7. Carroll is under .500 on the road this season, sporting a 2-3-1 record.
The Vikings are 4-3-3 all-time against the Pioneers, dropping the most recent encounter last season in the CCIW Tournament in overtime. The two teams tied in their regular season meeting in 2022 as well.
