GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will step out of CCIW play on Saturday, October 14 to visit the Grinnell Pioneers.
Augustana is 10-1-3 on the season and is coming off a last-minute win over the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday, using a goal in the 89th minute from
Paige Bingen to notch the 1-0 victory. After Elmhurst saw a 3-1 advantage in shots in a scoreless opening half, both squads saw more chances in the second, with the Vikings plus-one in shots at 4-3. Half of the team's looks were saved by the Bluejays, but with less than two minutes to go,
Jordyn Swanson drove a pass up the middle to Bingen, who then sent into the goal for the first and only score of the game. The Vikings fended off one last push from the Bluejays to collect their fourth consecutive shutout. The score for Bingen is her first as a member of Augustana.
Grinnell enters the weekend with a 5-3-3 overall record, recently seeing their five-game unbeaten streak come to an end in a 1-0 home loss to St. Mary's (Minn.). The Pioneers racked up three wins in a row prior to that defeat, all against conference foes.
Saturday will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs, with Augustana holding a slight 4-3 advantage. It will be the first encounter in 10 years, with the Vikings winning the last time back in 2013, a 4-0 victory in Rock Island.
Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
