NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will remain on the road on Wednesday, January 25 when they take on the North Central Cardinals in a CCIW matchup.
The Vikings enter with a 5-13 record and 3-6 mark in the CCIW following a 79-73 road loss on Saturday at Millikin. Augustana led by two after 20 minutes of action before the Big Blue used a mid second-half run to go up by double digits. The Vikings slowly chipped away, eventually getting within one possession around the one-minute mark. Millikin converted back-to-back jumpers on consecutive possession to cushion their lead and hold on for the six-point victory. Four different Vikings cracked double digits in scoring, led by
Tyler Knuth's 22 points on 9-11 shooting.
Matt Hawkins tallied 15 points thanks to a big second half, while
Matt Hanushewsky and
Daniel Carr added 11 and 10 points.Â
North Central currently sits with a 10-7 overall record and 5-4 mark in conference. The Cardinals were defeated in their last outing, falling on the road at North Park by a score of 79-65. Prior to the loss, North Central had won six of their last seven games, with their lone defeat during that span coming by five points to No. 8 ranked Wheaton. Senior guard Matt Helwig currently leads the CCIW in scoring at 20.7 points per outing.Â
Augustana leads the all-time series between the two, 107-71, but has dropped their last three encounters with North Central. The Cardinals were victorious in their earlier-season meeting in Rock Island, an 83-69 win for the visitors. Hawkins had a game-high 22 points to lead the Vikings.Â
