DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will begin their second cycle through conference play on Saturday, January 21 when they take on the Millikin Big Blue on the road.
Augie is coming off of their second-straight home win after knocking off the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday by a score of 86-67. The two teams were tied at the end of 20 minutes of action, but the Vikings pulled away in the second, stretching their lead to double figures at about the halfway point before using a 20-8 run over the course of the next seven minutes to reach an advantage of 20. Four players reached double-digits in scoring for Augustana, led by
Anthony Cooper's 19 points on 6-7 shooting.
Matt Hawkins was also efficient shooting the ball, ending 6-8 from the field with 15 points.
Evan Ambrose tallied 13 points and
Daniel Carr had 11 to help lead the offensive efforts. Augie improved to 5-12 overall and 3-5 in the CCIW with the win.
Millikin enters Saturday with an 8-9 overall record and 1-7 mark in conference. The Big Blue have dropped four straight games, all in league action, including a 72-48 defeat to North Central in their most recent outing. Millikin's lone victory in the CCIW came in a one-point win over Carroll back on December 17. Four of their seven league losses have been decided by five points or less.
The Vikings lead the all-time series over the Big Blue, 103-58. Augustana won the earlier matchup this season in Rock Island on December 3 by a final of 68-58. Carr led all scorers with 17 points to go with his 12 rebounds, while
Chase Larsen also added 15 points.Â
