Beinborn ties career three-point record in dominant win over North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Macy Beinborn had 15 points and hit three three-point shots to etch her name at the top of the Augustana record books on Wednesday as the Augustana women's basketball team knocked off the North Central Cardinals by a final of 71-51. Her three makes moves her to a tie for most three-pointers in a career with 145, tying Kristen Pence who played from 2001-2005.

Augie got out to an early 6-0 lead, scoring on three of their first four attempts. The Vikings played tight defense, allowing just two field goal makes in the opening period, helping them finish with a plus-10 point differential after eight minutes of action. Midway through the second period, Gabriela Loiz reached double figures helping fend off North Central's 15-point effort. Augie kept the Cardinals at arm's length in an evenly-matched second frame, leading 34-24 entering the halftime break.

In the third period, North Central saw their highest scoring output of the game, connecting on 50 percent of their attempts to cut the deficit to just five. Augie retaliated with a 19-6 scoring spree to open the fourth frame. A strong defensive effort during the run limited the Cardinals to only eight points in eight minutes ofplay, closing the contest with their third victory of 20 or more points this season.

Seniors Loiz and Beinborn led the way for the Vikings, notching 18 and 15 points. The Vikings shot at a 48 percent clip from the field, their second-highest mark this season. On the glass, Beinborn also hauled in eight rebounds, while three other Vikings each grabbed six. A total of 10 Augustana players reached the scoring column in the win.

With the win, Augustana moves to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in conference play. The Vikings will remain on the road for a conference bout with Millikin on January 21. Saturday's contest is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Griswold Center.
