Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team competed in their first competition of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, placing fourth as a team and earning multiple top-five finishes at the Warhawk Invitational.
In No. 1 singles, Cailtyn Hanulikova won her first match of the day over her opponent from UW-Eau Claire. She ended up taking fourth overall after losing to the eventual champion from Grinnell in the next round. At No. 2 singles,
Michaela Magee was also victorious in her opening match over a familiar foe from Carthage. She won 6-1, 6-1 but was defeated in the semifinals to place in her in the third-place match. She finished the tournament in third in her bracket.
In the No. 1 doubles draw,
Lily Schoeck and
Hannah Colbert fell in their first match to the eventual champion from UW-Whitewater, but were victorious in their next two matches by an identical score of 8-2 to claim the consolation championship.
Grace Rider and
Mia Reese had a similar showing at No. 3 doubles, dropping their first match but winning the next two to take the consolation title. Rider and Reese won both of their final two matches by a score of 8-1.
"It was a good opportunity for us to get some matches in leading up to conference duals," said head coach
David DeSimone. "I'm excited to see what our group will do the rest of the fall."
The Vikings open up their CCIW slate on Saturday, September 10 at home against Wheaton. Start time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
