WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings football team will be back in action on Saturday, October 1 as they continue conference play with a road matchup with the Carroll Pioneers.

Augustana enters with a 2-1 record overall and 1-1 mark in league action following a 38-28 home loss to No. 11 Wheaton last Saturday. The Vikings struck first in the game on a four-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Hall to Bobby Inserra, but were met with a Thunder touchdown right before the end of the first quarter. Augustana grabbed the lead back early in the second on another Hall and Inserra hookup, but two touchdowns from Wheaton gave them a 21-14 lead at the break.

The Thunder extended their advantage to 35-14 at one point, but Augustana made it interesting, cutting it to seven with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Wheaton all but sealed the game with a long, time-consuming drive that resulted in a field goal to make it a two-possession game. Hall finished his night 23-38 through the air with 297 yards and two touchdowns, while Liam Crawley also added 68 yards and a score on 8-14 attempts. Jordan Vesey hauled in seven catches for 66 yards. Chase Tatum ended his night with 12 tackles on defense, also adding one sack. Ronde Worrels was next in line with nine, while Michael Hudson had the lone interception for the Vikings.

Carroll currently sits at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW. The team is coming off of their first loss of the season, a 26-21 defeat to Illinois Wesleyan. The Pioneers led 21-0 in the game and 21-7 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game, but the Titans rattled off 19 straight points to end the game, resulting in the five-point win. Carroll outscored their opponents 96-7 over the first two games in their wins over Wisconsin Lutheran and North Park.

Augustana leads the all-time series between the two, 24-15-2. Carroll won last year's meeting in Rock Island in overtime by a score of 29-26. The Vikings were victorious in their last visit to Waukesha back in 2018, resulting in a 24-14 final.
