ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings football team will be back home on Saturday, September 24 when they welcome in the No. 11 ranked Wheaton Thunder in a CCIW clash.

Augie sits at 2-0 on the season following a road win over Elmhurst in their CCIW opener last Saturday. The Vikings jumped out a 20-0 lead thanks to three first-half rushing touchdowns from Tyler Rivelli. Quarterback Thomas Hall connected with Ian Gorken in the second half for his first passing touchdown of the season, while another Rivelli touchdown on the ground gave Augie enough cushion to cruise to the victory by a score of 34-16.

Augustana out-gained Elmhurst 433-350 in the game, seeing 205 of those yards coming on the ground. Rivelli finished his outing with 75 yards to go with his four touchdowns. Jacob Brooks posted a team-best 79 yards running the ball. Hall completed 21 of 34 passes in his first start of the season, finishing with 228 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. Bobby Inserra tallied a game-high nine catches and 79 yards. On defense, Hugh Keany led a balanced group with six tackles, followed by three others with five. Chase Tatum and Cole Romano each added a sack for the Augie defense, while Nick Harper joined Tatum as the other member to force a fumble.

The Thunder are coming off of a 42-7 win over Illinois Wesleyan in their home and conference opener. The Thunder scored all 42 points in the first half, led by quarterback Will Bowers' 23-29 effort to go with 333 passing yards and four touchdowns. Wheaton fell on the road in their season opener on September 3 at No. 9 Trinity (Texas) by a score of 17-16 in overtime. The Thunder connected on a long field goal as time expired in regulation to send it to the extra session, but had their extra point blocked as they attempted to tie it up after their first overtime possession.

The Thunder hold a 33-29-2 record all-time over the Vikings, but have won the last 14 meetings. Augie's last victory over Wheaton came in 2006, a 17-14 win.
