ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will kick off their 2022 campaign at home on Thursday, September 1 when they host the Simpson Storm at Thorson-Lucken Field.
Augie enters 2022 after a 5-11 record in 2021. The Vikings were formidable at home during their non-conference slate a year ago, finishing a perfect 3-0 through the month of September at Thorson-Lucken. They outscored opponents 6-0 during those three games. In their four total wins at home in 2021, they finished with a plus-11 point differential.
One of the Vikings' top goal-getters returns as sophomore
Jarrett Baumgartner enters his second season at Augie after scoring five times a year ago. Three of those scores came in the team's home opener, earning a hat trick to lift Augie over Rockford by a score of 3-0.
Simpson comes to Rock Island after a 7-7-2 season a year ago. The Storm closed out the regular season with three straight wins, but fell to Loras in the conference tournament semifinals to end the year. Simpson defeated Augustana in the season opener in 2021 by a score of 6-1.
Augie leads the all-time series between the two 8-6-3, but have dropped five of the last six against the Storm.
