MOLINE, Ill. – Augustana baseball (26-9, 9-6) rolled to a 9-0 shutout win over Knox (6-26) tonight. The Vikings benefitted from three multiple-run innings and stellar pitching to win their third-consecutive game.
The Vikings got out to a hot start in the very first inning.
Jacob Barker started the scoring on a
Matt Ozanic groundout.
Kyle Campbell then singled
Alex Simon home before
Chase Maifield delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Campbell.
Augie got back on the scoring train in the fourth frame with four more runs.
Brett Benedetti singled
Kyle Wise home. Benedetti and
Alec McGinnis then came home on a Barker double before
Zachary Vrbancic came in on an Ozanic walk.
The Vikings delivered the final nail in Knox's coffin in the bottom of the eighth inning when Campbell and Simon scored on a Prairie Fire fielding error off the bat of Maifield.
Jacob Barker led the Augie offense going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Maifield and Ozanic also recorded multiple runs driven in with three and two, respectively. Elsewhere,
Kyle Campbell and
Alex Simon each scored two runs.
Dylan Grammer started and earned the win for the Vikings going six full innings and striking out nine Knox batters.
Anthony Sus also threw a near-perfect three inning with seven K's and just one hit and one walk allowed.
Augie baseball will conclude their home schedule tomorrow evening with another non-conference game against Simpson. First pitch between the Vikings and Storm is scheduled for 5:45 P.M.
