NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Augustana baseball (31-10) won their second game in as many nights today with a 7-4 victory over Millikin (27-15). The Vikings needed 11 innings to best Millikin but advanced to the next round of the conference tournament with the win.
The Big Blue started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when both Tommy Shaw and Frank Bryan scored on a Viking error before Tyler Gade drove in another with an RBI single.
Augustana rebounded in the next three innings to take their first lead of the game.
Kyle Wise scored on a throwing error after
Jacob Barker reached on a fielder's choice for the Vikings' first run. Barker then scored on another Millikin error to get within one run. Wise continued the scoring in the fourth frame with an RBI double down the left field line.
Jacob Pauwels then drove another run across in the top of the fifth to give Augie a 4-3 lead.
In the eighth, the Big Blue knotted the score on another Viking defensive error. The game remained tied through the ninth inning and advanced into extras. After a scoreless tenth, Augustana broke through for a big half inning.
Zachary Vrbancic singled
Cole Green home before Barker doubled to drive in Vrbancic. A fourth Mililkin error allowed Barker to score the final run in the Vikings' 7-4 triumph.
Vrbancic led the Augustana offense going 3-for-5 with a run scored and another driven in.
Cole Green and Pauwels each recorded two base hits while Barker led the Vikings with two runs.
Jacob Reusch earned the pitching win after 1.2 innings of relief work. Reusch struck out two Millikin batters in his winning effort.
Augie will continue play at the 2022 CCIW Tournament tomorrow afternoon. The Vikings will square off against North Park at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13.
