BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team will visit the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday, April 9 for their CCIW opener.
The Vikings have gone nearly two weeks since their last outing, which was a 17-5 home defeat to St. Ambrose. The Bees tallied the game's first goal 45 seconds into the game on their way to an 8-0 first-quarter advantage. Augie notched their first score of the contest shortly into the second quarter as
Cassidy Petrie got the Vikings on the board. St. Ambrose posted four more goals in the frame to take a 12-1 lead into halftime. The two teams played a much more even second half, but the deficit was too big for the Vikings to overcome as they fell to the Fighting Bees in their final non-conference outing.
Illinois Wesleyan enters Saturday with a 2-9 overall record and 0-1 mark in conference play. The Titans were defeated in double overtime in their CCIW opener on April 2, falling to Carroll at home 11-10. Illinois Wesleyan has one common opponent with Augustana this year in Concordia-Chicago, who they beat 16-7. The Vikings fell to the Cougars on the road on March 19 by a final of 13-3.
Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan are tied 4-4 in their all-time series. The Vikings won the first four meetings in their brief history, with the Titans currently hold a four-game winning streak. Illinois Wesleyan defeated Augie 19-4 in Rock Island last season in their previous encounter.
Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
