Women's tennis season comes to end with loss to North Central in CCIW AQ Tournament

LISLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team fell in the semifinals of the CCIW AQ Tournament on Friday, defeated by the top-seeded North Central Cardinals by a score of 5-0.

North Central, who has not lost a game to a CCIW opponent this season, started out with a 3-0 lead following wins in each of the doubles contests. Lily Schoeck and Caitlyn Hanulikova were defeated 8-3 at No. 1, with the other two matches going in favor of the Cardinals both by a final of 8-0.

The Cardinals closed out the match with quick wins at No. 5 and 6 singles to complete the win. Schoeck won the first set in her match, which went unfinished, defeating her counterpart at No. 1 by a score of 6-4. At No. 3, Lauren Oda battled tough with her opponent, resulting in a 6-6 tie in the first set before the match was called. Hanulikova was defeated in her opening frame at No. 3, but was leading 3-1 in the second at the time North Central claimed the match win.

"We competed well against a tough team today," said head coach David DeSimone. "I am prooud of the way we played and grew as a team over the course of this season."

Augustana concludes the season with a 7-15 overall record and 4-4 mark in the CCIW. The team saw two all-conference members this season in Schoeck and Hanulikova.
