DECORAH, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Sunday in their final regular-season match of the year, falling to the Luther Norse by a score of 7-2.
The home team grabbed two of three doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play, securing wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. The tandem of
Lily Schoeck and
Caitlyn Hanulikova salvaged a point for the Vikings, hanging on with an 8-6 victory at No. 1.
In singles, the Norse took five of six in their favor, but again it was Shoeck who secured a win at the top position for the Vikings. At No. 1, the junior made it a 2-0 day for herself after defeating her opponent in two close sets with a final score of 7-5, 6-4. At No. 3,
Lauren Oda fought back from a first set defeat with a 6-4 win in the second, but fell in the third-set tiebreaker 10-6.
With the loss, Augie drops to 7-14 on the season. The team will now prepare for the CCIW AQ Tournament to take place on Friday, April 29. The Vikings earned the No. 4 seed from in the CCIW Championships in the fall and will face the No. 1 seeded North Central Cardinals in the semifinals.
