ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana men's lacrosse (10-4, 2-3) suffered a 12-7 loss to Elmhurst (10-4, 2-2) in their home finale earlier today. The Viking offense stalled in the second half while the Bluejays exploded to end the first in their road victory.
Augustana jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of
Sam Shaver goals in the game's first seven minutes. The Bluejays then bounced back and rattled off seven unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead.
Bob Robertson ended the Elmhurst run with the Vikings' third goal before
Mark Teschke struck for his first score of the match to reach the halftime score of 8-4.
The Vikings did not manage a goal in third quarter as Elmhurst was able to extend their lead by two of their own. In the final period, Augustana outscored the Bluejays 3-2 with goals from
Matteo Uccelli,
Elijah Graesser, and
Carson Ghys. The Vikings' deficit was too deep, though, as Elmhurst held on to take the 12-7 triumph.
Sam Shaver's two goals led the Viking offense while Elmhurst's Jake Grebe posted a hat trick to lead all scorers. Defensively,
Conner Waite caused three turnovers while Augustana keeper
Cameron Duffy recorded 13 saves.
The Vikings will conclude their regular season schedule next weekend when they take on Transylvania in a neutral site conference matchup at Naperville on Saturday, Apr. 30.
