GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team will face the Penn State Behrend Lions on Thursday, April 21 to kick off the Collegeiate Water Polo Association DIII Championships at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool on the campus of Grove City College.

The Vikings (7- 11, 6-2 CWPA Division III-West) come into the program's inaugural Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship seeking to record the highest-ever finish by a first-year program, which was established back in 2019 when the Austin "Roos took second after falling in the title game to Macalester. Augie enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the west division and No. 3 seed overall and will face the No. 6 overall seed Penn State Behrend for their first contest. The Vikings have not faced an opponent from the east this season, but finished 6-2 against the west, sweeping games against Wittenberg, Macalester, and Carthage. Top seed Austin defeated Augustana in both of their meetings this season.

Penn State Behrend enters the weekend with a 7-15 overall record and 2-2 mark in the CWPA DIII-East. The Lions have won three out of their last four contests after knocking off three league opponents at their regional tournament two weekends ago. Behrend defeated Grove City 13-12 in overtime in their most recent outing after falling to top seed in the east, Washington & Jefferson, by a final of 11-7 for their only loss at the tournament. The Lions have played just one team from the west this season, which was a 15-8 loss to Wittenberg back on February 26.

Start time is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. CST on Thursday. It will be the only game of the day for the Vikings, with their games on Friday and Saturday depending on results from the first day. Scores from the tournament can be found here and a pay-per-view live stream will be available here.
