ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team picked up a conference road win on Tuesday, defeating the Elmhurst Bluejays in a rescheduled contest by a final score of 7-2.
Augie took all three doubles matches to enter singles with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Nicolas Navarro and
Justin Cassens posted a flawless 8-0 win at the No. 3 spot, with
Timothee Philip/
Kyle Boudreau at No. 2 and
Arthur Hermange/
Leonardo Panosso at No. 1 each grabbing 8-4 victories to close out doubles actions.
Elmhurst grabbed just two of the six singles contests as Augustana pulled away for the match win. Hermange secured a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win at the top position, joined by
Gabriel Luna's quick 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 to help lead the way.
Deepak Vayara at No. 3 and Navarro at No. 5 grabbed the other two wins for the Vikings to make it a 7-2 final in their favor. Both of the Bluejays' wins came in three sets.
With the win, Augustana improves to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in CCIW action. The team will close out the regular season next Wednesday, April 27 at home against the Millkin Big Blue. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Lower Campus Courts on the campus of Augustana College.
