MOLINE, Ill. – Augustana baseball (21-6, 6-3) rode the right arm of starting pitcher
Nathaniel Sammer and a huge fourth inning to a 12-0 home victory on Tuesday night. Augustana's win over North Park (10-17, 3-5) was their sixth of the year in conference play.
The Vikings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning after a two-RBI double by
Griffen Pschigoda. An inning later, the host Vikings expanded their advantage after another RBI double by
Kyle Campbell, a single off the bat of
Brett Benedetti, and a fielder's choice RBI by
Alec McGinnis.
Augustana then delivered what would eventually be the final blow with a seven-run fourth frame. Campbell drove two more in while Benedetti and Pschigoda each drove in another run.
Zachary Vrbancic added the final tally with a two-RBI single to right field to reach the final 12-0 score.
Four Vikings scored multiple runs in the shutout victory. Campbell and Benedetti each notched three hits while Campbell and Pschigoda had a team-high three RBI.
Nathaniel Sammer's day on the mound included a complete game, seven-inning shutout to improve his record to 2-1. Sammer struck out six North Park hitters while allowing six hits and three walks.
Augie baseball will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 23 for a double-header versus North Central. The weekend series with the Cardinals will wrap up a four-game homestand for Augustana.
