ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana baseball (20-6, 5-3) will host North Park (10-16, 3-4) on Tuesday, Apr. 19 for a CCIW tilt. Both Viking squads are coming off a win in their latest contests.
North Park took down eighth-ranked North Central in their series finale with the Cardinals. Prior to that game, the Vikings lost three of the previous four games. NPU's two other wins include an 8-7 defeat of Millikin and a 10-2 win over Carthage.
Two North Park batters are currently hitting for averages over .300. Ranko Stevanovic leads the club at .392 followed by Justin Swanson at .355. Stevanovic also leads NPU in slugging (.657), hits (40), RBI (32), doubles (10), home runs (5), and total bases (67). Swanson paces the Vikings in various other categories including walks (18), runs scored (30), stolen bases (5), and is tied for the team-high in doubles with 10.
Ethan Sund has been the ace on staff for North Park with 52 innings pitched, five wins in eight starts, a 3.46 earned run average, and 69 strike outs, all of which are team-highs.
Since 2014, Augustana has beaten North Park 17 times in 25 games. Augie has won the last five contests including five wins in the 2021 season. North Park's last victory over Augustana came in the 2019 CCIW Tournament when NPU eliminated their Viking counterparts.
