NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team fell in a conference road match on Saturday, defeated by the North Central Cardinals by a score of 9-0.
The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead in the match following a sweep of doubles play. The No. 1 tandem of
Leonardo Panosso and
Arthur Hermange battled tough, but eventually fell by a final of 8-5.
In singles, the Vikings put together a couple of close sets with their opponents, with
Deepak Vayara at No. 3 taking his opponent to a third set after falling in the first. Vayara was defeated in the third-set tiebreaker 1-0 (8).
Timothee Philip and
Nicolas Navarro also nearly squeaked out set wins, falling in their respective matches at No. 4 and 6 with final scores of 7-5, 6-2 and 7-6, 6-3.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 3-10 overall and 1-2 in CCIW play. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 when they face the Wheaton Thunder on the road. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Wheaton, Ill.
