Baseball falls in conference opener at Carroll

Ozanic scores two, Boushele K's eight in loss

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Augustana baseball (14-4, 0-1) opened their CCIW baseball schedule with a matchup against the Carroll Pioneers (8-11, 1-0). The Pioneers held Augustana hitless until the sixth inning and benefitted from two big innings to take the 7-2 contest.

Carroll struck first in the third inning with four runs. Josh Kolb and Nick Angus came home before Justin Baker drove in two more.

Augustana finally got on the board in the top of the sixth frame on a Kyle Campbell RBI double to bring Matt Ozanic home.

Both teams scored again in back-to-back innings with the Pioneers adding another run in the seventh and Augustana drawing closer in the eighth. Benton Holly smacked a three-run homer to extend the Pioneers' lead to 7-1. Chase Maifield drove Ozanic in again in the eighth inning, but the Vikings could not maintain the rally.

Ben Ellifson won his second game of the year for the Pioneers. The Carroll senior threw 7.2 innings with three strikeouts, three walks, and five hits allowed.

Harrison Boushele suffered his first loss on the mound for the Vikings with six innings to his credit and eight strikeouts. Matt Ozanic led the Augie offense going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.
