ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team fell in their penultimate match of the season on Wednesday, falling to the North Park Vikings by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-14) from inside the Carver Center.
North Park jumped out to a quick lead in the first set with six of the first seven points to force an Augie timeout. The visitors continued to keep their momentum, stringing together a 7-2 spurt following the first timeout to cause another from Augustana. The home team Vikings bounced back to shrink the ten-point deficit to as low as four, but were unable to get any closer as NPU took the first game with a final sore of 25-19.
It was another fast start for North Park in the second frame, jumping out to a 4-0 advantage and then pushing it to eight at 12-4. Augie trimmed it to four after a 5-1 spurt and later on got the differential even smaller to two at 20-18 and again at 21-19 before North Park closed the set with the final four points to win it by an identical 25-19 score.
The third set brought a more back-and-forth beginning to it, with North Park holding on to an 8-7 advantage early on. From there, four straight points forced an Augustana timeout, followed by another short burst to put them up seven. After another break, the lead doubled to 20-10 and North Park cruised to the finish line with a 25-14 set three win to take the match 3-0.
Aidan Bolen posted a team-high 11 kills in the match for Augie.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 6-17 overall and 2-9 in CCIW action. The team will close out their 2022 season at home on Friday, April 1 against Millikin. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
