SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team picked up two wins in three games over the weekend at the CWPA regional tournament hosted by Wittenberg, defeating the Macalester Scots on Saturday 17-5 before splitting two games on Sunday with the Austin Roos and Wittenberg Tigers.

Game One (W 17-5 vs. Macalester)

The Vikings doubled up the Scots in the opening quarter of the first game of the weekend for each team, eventually stretching the two-point deficit to seven with a 6-1 second quarter advantage. Augustana continued to add on through the third and fourth quarters, allowing just two goals to the Scots in the final two frames combined. The Vikings saw a balanced attack on offense as three different members tallied at least three goals, led by seven from Alyssa Fricker. The freshman also tallied three assists and had a game-high 11 steals. Olivia Hillhouse notched four goals on five shots, while teammate Ocean Akau was right behind with three goals as well.

Game Two (L 12-7 vs. Austin)

In the second game of the weekend and first of the day on Sunday, the Vikings and Roos squared off in a battle of the top two ranked teams in the CWPA DIII poll. Austin started the game with a 4-2 lead after eight minutes of play and a 3-1 second quarter advantage allowed them to double their margin from two to four at halftime. Augie had their best offensive quarter of the game in the third as they doubled their first-half production with three scores, but Austin tallied four in the frame to stretch their lead heading into the final period. Each team pushed one into the net in the fourth to give the Roos the five-point win.

Hillhouse and Lauren Dickinson each secured two goals to lead the Vikings. Lizzie Pelzman had 12 saves in net.

Game Three (15-11 vs. Wittenberg)

In the final contest of the tournament for Augie, the Vikings knocked off the host school Tigers to make it a 2-1 trip to Springfield. It was a busy opening quarter as the two teams combined for nine goals scored, six of which game from Augustana. After the Tigers posted a 2-1 lead in the opening 1:20, the Vikings answered with the next three and five of the final six scored to give them a 6-3 following eight minutes of action. The three-point advantage turned to five heading into halftime after a 4-2 second quarter win for the Vikings.

Augie continued to stretch their lead, posting another positive frame in the third to remain doubled up on Wittenberg at 14-7. The Tigers put together a late run in the fourth, but it was not enough as the Vikings held on for the victory.

Fricker led the way with five goals, while Hillhouse had four.

With the wins, Augie is now 3-10 on the season and 2-1 against teams in their league. The Vikings will return home to face another league opponent on Saturday, April 2 when they host the Carthage Firebirds at 3:00 p.m. All five remaining regular season contests for Augustana will be against fellow CWPA opponents.
