PEORIA, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will head back for part two of the Mount Mary Slugger Series this Thursday-Friday at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.
During the first leg of the event, the Vikings won three of four, scoring a total of 36 runs and picking up wins over Lawrence, Edgewood, and Lincoln. The team was defeated by Dominican in their lone loss in extra innings by a score of 11-7.
Nichole Nash led the high-powered offense for the Vikings, ending the two-day run stretch batting .533 with eight hits and six runs scored. She tallied three extra-base hits and batted in four. On the mound,
Becca Cash picked up two wins for Augie and has a 1.35 ERA and eight strikeouts so far this season.
On Thursday, Augustana will match up with the UW-Platteville Pioneers in the opening game at 4:00 p.m. This will be the Pioneers' first game this season. The Vikings lead the all-time series 17-5 and have won three of the last four played. Their most recent outing came back in 2019 at a neutral site in Loves Park, Ill., resulting in a 10-2 Augie victory.
The Vikings will round out Thursday's action at 6:00 p.m. with the first of two straight games against the UW-Stevens Point Pointers. The Pointers currently sit at 4-0 on the season after sweeping a pair of doubleheaders against Marian and St. Norbert, outscoring their opponents 32-4 combined over those four games. Augustana is 3-5 all-time against Stevens Point, with their last encounter coming back in a doubleheader at home in 2019 that resulted in a split. The two teams will also open Friday's action against each other, with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Augustana closes their stay in Peoria right after with a matchup against Alverno. Thursday's action will be the first games of the season for the Inferno after a 1-28 record a season ago. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
